The thickness of the walls – over 3 m – and the dimension of the square column bases (measuring 1.52 m per side) enable reconstruction of a building measuring 10 to 15 m high. In the absence of fragments of stone shafts and capitals, these elements must be recreated in wood, which was no doubt covered in painted plaster. Fragments of red and blue pigments have been found stuck to the earth or in potsherds that served as paint palettes. The western passageway was flanked by the Statue of Darius to the south and most probably another statue against the north jamb. Visitors entering therefore had to turn to see them. heading outside, it is possible to imagine sculptures of fantasy animals on either side of the passageway, like in Persepolis, but nothing has been found. Some authors propose the existence of other human statues, based on carved fragments found at Susa that could belong to more than one sculpture in local limestone.
