TRADUCTION
Sîn-ahu-iddin/Ša-Nabû-šū has sworn by Bēl, Nabû and Darius, king of Babylon, king of the lands, to Marduk-rēmanni/Bēl-uballiṭ/Ṣāhit-ginê: (6) Before the first day of month kislīmu (01-IX) of the sixth year (of Darius) I will bring the small cattle and draw up accounts with Marduk-rēmanni about the offspring, the shorn wool and the donkeys, in keeping with (the terms specified in) the debt note of Bēl-uballiṭ, the father of Marduk-rēmanni, drawn up against me. (12) I will pay Marduk-rēmanni. (13) Were my words with Marduk-rēmanni not firm (i.e. true) from the beginning? (14) I will satisfy Marduk-rēmanni.” (16) Witnesses: Nabû-ahhē-šullim/Mušēzib-Marduk/Šangû-Ištar-Bābili, Bēl-uballiṭ/Bēl-kāṣir/Sîn-šadûnu, Marduk-zēru-ibni/Lâbâši-Marduk/Uballissu-Marduk, Nidinti-Marduk/Nabû-ēṭir-napšāti/Išparu, Nergal-šumu-iddin/Iqīša/Ṣāhit-ginê. (22) Scribe: Bēl-rēmanni/Mušebši-Marduk/Šangû-Šamaš. (23) Sippar, Dar 13-VIII-06. (25) (This oath is) in addition to the summons.

NOTES
(13-15) Kienast 1988: 29 read these lines as follows: a-mat-ta-a ki IdMarduk-re-manan-ni ta-al-la-ku-nu-ú kaskalII a-na gìrII šá Idamar.utu-re-manan-ni a-šak-kan-na “(Wenn) mein Versprechen gegenüber Marduk-rīmannī fällig wird (ohne dass ich leiste), werde ich mich dem Marduk-rīmannī unterwerfen”. The reading of the verb in l. 14 causes many grammatical and semantic difficulties. However, this reading by Kienast is based on an emendation; the copy clearly has the phrase a-mat-ta-a (...) ta sag la ku-nu-ú, a negated question. The expressions amātu kunnu “a true word” and amātu lā kunnu “an untrue word” are well-attested (Jursa 1999: 248 and AHw 439, 507).
(20)    Nidinti-Marduk/Nabû-ēṭir-napšāti/Išparu is the only witness of MR 52 who is not also mentioned in MR 53a-b, written on the same day by the same scribe. Instead of him, we find Nidinti-Bēl/Nabû-ēṭir-napšāti/Iššakku in MR 53a-b. This man is known from the archive of Bēl-rēmanni (BR 164 : 7’ and BR 178 : 19). By contrast, Nidinti-Marduk/Nabû-ēṭir-napšāti/Išparu is not attested outside of MR 52. The most likely scenario is that the scribe of MR 52 made a double mistake, writing Nidinti-Marduk instead of Nidinti-Bēl and Išparu instead of the vaguely similar family name Iššakku. Note that the name of the next witness is also misspelled (Idu.gur-mu-<mu>).
(25)    This remark refers to MR 53a-b, a summons that was written on the same day as the present text. The expression šaṭāru ša adannāti must therefore be the technical Akkadian description of this type of document. For more such legal vocabulary, see Baker 2003 and Sandowicz 2011.
