TRADUCTION
5 m of white scrap silver with ⅛ alloy, of Itti-Nabû-balāṭu/Rēmūt-Nabû/Mallāhu, are due from Rēmūt-Nabû/Nabû-mukīn-zēri/Rē’i-alpi. (4)The silver is the remainder of the debt note of 10 m of white silver of Itti-Nabû-balāṭu, due from Rēmūt-Nabû, and (for which) Rēmūt-Nabû’s oxherd prebend (in) 10 months in Ezida are taken as pledge. (8) His entire 10 months of the oxherd prebend will remain Itti-Nabû-balāṭu’s pledge until the payment of those 5 m of silver. (11) Witnesses: Nabû-ittannu/Bēl-uballiṭ/Aškapu?, Nabû-nān-ahi/Nabû-aplu-iddin/Rēš-ummāni, Itti-Nabû-balāṭu/Sîn-šumu-ukīn/Ilia, Nabû-ēṭer-napšāti/Nabû-zēr-Bābili-ukīn/Mallāhu. (15) Scribe: Nabû-ēṭer-napšāti/Nabû-šumu-ukīn/Ilānu?.(16) Borsippa, Dar 13-IV-24.
REMARQUES
The original debt note, referred to in ll.4-7, is preserved as EAH 225 (transcription courtesy E. Gehlken). It is dated in Dar 21, shortly after Rēmūt-Nabû’s major crisis of Dar 20 when he sold a large number of properties (see the commentary to BM 26576 no. 192 for this affair). The credit conditions of EAH 225 were particularly severe: Rēmūt-Nabû had to pay interest (probably the regular rate of 20%) while mortgaging all his property (“in town and land”), including his entire oxherd prebend in Ezida and four months of the cowherd’s prebend:

10 m of white scrap silver, with ⅛ alloy, capital of Itti-Nabû-balāṭu/Rēmūt-Nabû/ Mallāhu, due from Rēmūt-Nabû/Nabû-mukīn-zēri/Rē’i-alpi. (4) Per m [1?] š white silver will accrue against him as interest on that 10 m white scrap silver with ⅛ alloy. Everything in town and countryside and his entire oxherd prebend in Ezida as well as per year 4 months – II, V, VII, VIII – in total 4 months [of the cow(‘s prebend) is pledge of Itti-Nabû-balāṭu (...)].

BM 94670 gives a more detailed description of the oxherd prebend pledged by Rēmūt-Nabû. The “10 months” mentioned in ll.6 and 8 refer to the number of months in which Rēmūt-Nabû owned days of the oxherd prebend, it does not mean that he owned 10 full months. According to the large manzaltu contract of Dar 18 (BM 25609) Rēmūt-Nabû owned at that point 134 days of the year, spread over eleven months (he had no prebends in month III). In BM 26576 no. 192 (Dar 20) he sold his only 2 days in month VI, so that in Dar 24, when BM 94670 was written, he owned days in “10 months.”
